Online Continuing Education or "Distance Education" is becoming an increasingly popular way to receive your elective hours. While online classes are not as fun and entertaining as taking one of our live classes, it is a wonderful opportunity to take one elective for the year or three electives to re-activate a license. Besides, you can take it in the convenience of your home, or office, stopping and re-starting as your schedule allows. The North Carolina Real Estate Commission does not provide the update class in an online format at this time. The Mandatory Update written each year by the NC Real Estate Commission has to be taken live/in person. Let me invite you to enjoy our Update Class Live and Entertaining and experience the difference of an Online Elective Class.
While Advantage Training Systems, Inc (ATS, INC) sponsors online continuing educations courses; Dearborn Education, a national Real Estate Publishing Company, provides the courses. When you purchase an online course for the low fee of $54.00, you are actually paying Dearborn Education, not ATS, Inc.
If you should experience any type of technical difficulty, please contact Dearborn 's Technical Support immediately. Their number is 1-800-621-9621, and is also provided in the e-mail you will receive after your purchase your course. Usually, any of the problems you experience are very minor and can be fixed quickly and easily.
The cost of online courses is $54.00. If you have already purchased classroom courses with one of our exceptional trainers, and then choose to take an online course instead, we regret we cannot convert the money you have already paid for the classroom course toward an online course.
The North Carolina Real Estate Commission requires that any online course be completed within 30 days of its purchase date and time. When you purchase your course you will receive a very important email with information about your course and the exact date that your course will expire. Your course will expire at the exact same time you registered for the course just 30 days later. Please note the date and time the course expires, for the North Carolina Real Estate Commission will not allow us to extend the course. No exceptions.
If you purchase an online course after May 10th of a license year, you have until June 10th provided that you have purchased it no later than June 10 th. You no longer have until June 15 th as in previous years.
If you take an online course and then see a live elective course, which you would also like to take, you are allowed to take as many electives as you would like and carry over up to 4 hours toward the next year's requirement. So, if you take 12 hours this year, you can carry over 4 hours and take only the mandatory 4-hour update the following year. You would just be ahead for the next year.
After purchasing your online course you do not have to complete it all at once. The course bookmarks where you stop each time, so you can take as much time as you need, as long as you complete it with the 30-day time frame. If you need to take more than one elective course to re-active your license, we suggest that you only purchase and complete one course at a time. Otherwise, you may have the same 30-day time frames to complete multiple courses instead of just one. Most people say that it takes at least 3 hours and 30 minutes to complete each course if you work straight through the course with minimal breaks.
The NC Real Estate Commission does not require a final exam on continuing education courses. Therefore when you finish your course, it will not show 100% complete, but should be somewhere in the 90% completion range. If you feel that you've finished, but your course does not show you're in the 90% range, it usually means that you have overlooked reading a session or a quiz. Please note that a session quiz will not show you complete until you have passed 90% or greater.
Please always use the buttons in the course itself to maneuver through the course from page to page or to exit the course. If you use your Internet browser buttons, right click, or use the Internet browser button to exit, your course will not recognize that you have completed a session or quiz and will therefore not show the session/quiz as complete.
Please do not share an e-mail address with anyone else that is taking an online course. Dearborn Education tracks each person's course through his or her email address. Therefore, if you share an e-mail address with another person, one person or the other will have their information deleted, which means one of you will not receive credit for the purchase of the course.
Before beginning your class, please take the time to e-mail your instructor. Place your name and chosen class in the subject line of your e-mail. The e-mail address is Jessica@atsce.com. Please include your contact information including phone number, name as it appears on your real estate license, fax number and your real estate license number in the body of the email.
When you have completed your course, please sign a copy of the CE Completion Form and fax it to us toll free at 1-888-417-4833. Once you have completed your course or courses, sent us an e-mail confirming that you took it and fax us a copy of the CE Completion Form, we will mail you a certificate within 2 weeks. You do not have to wait for the certificate or do anything with the certificate in order to sell real estate. It is solely for your records. You should see your credit posted on the NCREC website within 30 days of receipt of certificate. The NCREC website is not seamless or immediate.
Reactivating a License
If you are re-activating a license, first fill out and sign the CE Completion Form and fax it to our office and then secondly print and mail the Application for Reactivation of License Form required by the Real Estate Commission. Both forms are on our website under the CE Online link. When you have completed the number of hours the commission requires for you to reactive your license (normally 16 if you are inactive) and fill out the application you can resume working as soon as you put the application in the mail to the Real Estate Commission. You do not have to wait for confirmation or a certificate, only complete the courses and the Application for Reactivation of License Form and send the application to the North Carolina Real Estate Commission in the mail.
